Horizon Europe: Cluster 6

Context
Cluster 6 will focus on activities aimed at developing innovative solutions to accelerate transition to sustainable and circular management, and the use of natural land and sea resources. Funded projects will support efforts to ensure ecosystem integrity as well as territorially balanced and sustainable development and human well-being, including water, food and nutrition security.

An introduction to Cluster 6 can be found in the slides from a recent visit from the Cluster 6 National Contact Points.

Destinations and Call Topics
Call topics will be grouped in the following seven “Destinations”

Please note that the topics listed are from the 2021-22 Cluster 6 Work Programme (via the EC portal).

This Destination will address the main causes of biodiversity loss, particularly in connection to production systems.

This Destination concentrates on transition to sustainable, healthy and inclusive food systems from primary production to consumption.

This destination and its topics target the climate-neutral circular and bio economy transitions, covering safe integrated circular solutions at territorial and sectoral levels.

This Destination focuses on advancing knowledge of pollution sources and pathways to enable preventive measures, improvement on monitoring and control, the application of planetary boundaries in practice and introducing effective remediation methods.

This Destination concentrates on assessing the impacts of climate change on our land and marine environments, natural resources, agriculture and food systems, and identifying mitigation options and adaptation pathways.

Under this destination, transdisciplinary R&I with a strong social and behavioural sciences dimension, and attention to gender aspects, is intended to support sustainable, balanced and inclusive development of rural, coastal and urban areas.

R&I activities under this destination focus on both experimenting with new ways to govern the transition process, and on modernising governance, in particular by making information and knowledge available and accessible. R&I for governance to support the Green Deal is intended to provide insights into institutional barriers such as lock-ins, path dependency, bounded rationality, political and cultural inertia and power imbalances.
